What Drakos Systems Provides

Drakos Systems installs and supports VoIP phone systems for established and growing businesses across Northern Ireland, with direct support, number porting, desk phones, mobile apps and ongoing management. You deal with one person who knows your system, not a call centre.

Whether you are replacing an ageing PBX, moving office, adding remote workers, or just tired of a phone system that does not do what you need, we can help you move to a cloud-hosted VoIP platform that works properly from day one.

What Is Included

Cloud VoIP Hosting

No on-site server required. The phone system is hosted in the cloud and managed remotely. Add or remove users any time.

028 Number Porting

Keep your existing 028 number. We handle the porting process and set up temporary routing so calls continue during the transition.

Desk Phones

Yealink and compatible SIP handsets supplied, pre-configured and ready to plug in. Basic models to full-colour touch-screen phones.

Mobile Apps

iOS and Android apps so staff can make and receive business calls on their mobile, using the office number, from anywhere with a signal.

Auto-Attendant

Professional greeting and call menu. Route callers to the right department or person without needing a receptionist.

Call Routing and Queues

Ring groups, call queues, time-based routing and out-of-hours messages. Callers get handled properly even when you are busy.

Voicemail to Email

Voicemail messages delivered to your inbox as audio files. Never miss a message because someone forgot to check the voicemail.

Call Recording

Record calls automatically or on demand. Useful for compliance, training and resolving disputes. Stored securely and accessible when needed.

Broadband Failover for VoIP

4G backup routers keep your phones working if broadband drops. Calls divert automatically to mobile as a secondary fallback.

Legacy PBX and SIP Migration

If your business has an older Avaya, Panasonic or NEC phone system connected to ISDN lines, you need to plan a migration before January 2027 when ISDN switches off across the UK. Two options are common:

We can assess your existing system and tell you which option makes sense. See our PBX replacement guide for Northern Ireland for more detail on Avaya, Panasonic and NEC migrations.

Real Deployments

Manufacturing Business: Office and Factory Floor

Challenge: Noisy factory floor needing reliable emergency dialling, weather-resistant phones in wet environments, legacy cabling and undocumented extensions.

Delivered: Hosted VoIP with weather-resistant enclosures for factory phones, verified emergency calling, desktop and mobile apps, business Wi-Fi improvements, intelligent call routing, cabling rationalisation, full number migration and user training.

Outcome: Staff manage call routing themselves, work from anywhere, reliable factory communications, reduced maintenance overhead.

Multi-Site SME: Work From Anywhere

Challenge: Users across several locations and home. Existing system limited flexibility and required office-based working.

Delivered: Hosted cloud telephony, softphones, business mobile integration, auto attendants, hunt groups, call reporting, desktop and mobile apps.

Outcome: Answer business calls from any location with a consistent company number, improved reporting and simpler administration.

Business Modernisation: Tangled Legacy Suppliers

Challenge: Multiple telecom suppliers inherited over time, numbers never fully ported (dependent on forwarding), unclear support responsibilities.

Delivered: Infrastructure audit, number ownership verification, full number porting, removal of legacy forwarding, firewall review, QoS implementation, documentation and user training.

Outcome: Reduced monthly costs, simplified support, improved resilience, clear ownership of all numbers.

Engineer's Notes: What Usually Decides VoIP Quality

When a business reports broken audio, one-way calls or phones dropping offline, the fault is often underneath the phone system rather than in the handset itself. We check the broadband path, firewall, switching and local network before blaming the hosted platform.

Common causes include SIP ALG rewriting traffic, NAT sessions expiring too quickly, registration keep-alives not matching the firewall timeout, voice sharing a busy data network without QoS, or deep packet inspection interfering with encrypted SIP and media. Where it is appropriate, we separate voice onto its own VLAN, preserve the correct DSCP markings and confirm that switches and routers are actually trusting and prioritising those packets.

Yealink, Avaya and other supported handsets can advertise or accept a voice VLAN through LLDP-MED or manual VLAN tagging. That only helps when the switch ports, DHCP options and upstream QoS policy have been designed properly. We also test failure paths, including 4G or 5G backup, call diversion and power protection, rather than assuming the cloud platform alone provides continuity.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I keep my 028 number when switching to VoIP?

Yes. Your existing 028 number can be ported to the new VoIP platform. The process typically takes 5 to 10 working days once the paperwork is submitted. During the transition, calls continue to route normally so you do not miss anything.

What happens to VoIP calls if the broadband goes down?

Calls can automatically divert to mobile numbers if the system detects the office is offline. Staff can also use the mobile app over 4G. We offer 4G backup routers that kick in within seconds of a broadband outage, keeping desk phones working as normal.

How much does a VoIP phone system cost?

Most hosted VoIP systems cost between £12 and £20 per user per month depending on the features required. Desk phones range from around £80 for a basic model to £200 for a full-colour screen handset. There is no large upfront cost as there would be with a traditional PBX.

What is the ISDN switch-off and why does it matter?

BT Openreach is switching off the UK's traditional PSTN and ISDN phone lines in January 2027. After this date, phone systems that rely on ISDN lines will stop working. Cloud VoIP runs over broadband and is not affected. If your current system uses ISDN, planning the migration now avoids last-minute pressure.
